Michelle Austin

Office Manager
Kent First Presbyterian Church

Michelle Marie Spears was born and raised in Klamath Falls Oregon with strong ties to a large family. Part of the strength of her family came from her

Grandmother Pauline who was an absolute student of the bible and along with her husband Neil had very strong Christian beliefs. Michelle grew up attending Shasta Way Christian Church.

After high school Michelle obtained a degree in accounting from Oregon Institute of Technology where she met her future husband Charley Austin. While Charley finished his degree Michelle put her new skills to work at Klamath Union Bank. The couple was married in 1985 and left for Long Beach California when Charley received a job offer to work for McDonnell Douglas.

Once settled in Long Beach Michelle got a job at Union Federal Banks and was offered the position of branch manager. Along the way the couple took on the responsibilities of being foster parents to a young seven-year-old boy named Chris Lopez and raising Michelle’s oldest sister’s child Jeremy Spears. During this time the young family attended Long Beach Presbyterian and got the kids involved in youth groups.

In 1990 the couple’s first child, Brandon, was born and the young family moved to Kent Washington so Charley could pursue a job with Boeing. With one baby and two grade school kids Michelle did anything she could to make a little money, including delivering newspapers and phone books. In January of 1992 the couple’s second child, Brittany, was born.

In 1997 Michelle saw her childhood dream realized when she purchased a flower shop by the name of “Carols of Covington”. Michelle changed the name to Covington Floral Designs and tripled the business in three short years. Michelle sold the shop in May of 2006 due to the fact that Brandon and Brittany were entering their freshman and sophomore years at Rainier Christian High School and she wanted more time with her kids.
