MISSION COMMITTEE
At our September 28th meeting Mission Committee acted on a letter from Elizabeth Njatha concerning request for monies for her church in Africa. We decided to use our share of the peacemaking offering from last year's offering ($268.25) plus $31.75 from this year's peacemaking offering to make an even $300 donation to Elizabeth Njatha's church in Africa where there is great need.
In addition to the previous expenditure of $100 for supplies for the McCartys’ students earlier this year and the decision to fund up to $400 for the Domestic Abuse Women Network (D.A.W.N). fundraising auction, Mission Committee decided to make the following donations from Mission Causes budget.
Church of Mary Magdalene $100
For Sleeping Bags/Blankets/Warm Clothing to Kent Food Bank & Emergency Service $350
Samaritan Center (formerly Presbyterian Counseling Service) $200 Southwest Mental Health Ministry $200
For Supplies for McCartys' students-another $100
Based on request from H.O.M.E our church will host homeless men in June versus July of each year. We will continue to host the men in December of each year.

Hosting H.O.M.E in June

The New Life Program serves the community of Kent by providing financial assistance to those in need. Appointments are made on Monday for Tuesday morning interviews. Funds are acquired through offerings and gifts from the congregation.
Kent First operates as a distribution point for the Emergency Feeding Program. The food bank operates on Monday through Thursday morning from 9:00 AM to noon. Clients are referred to us by other agencies in Kent.
The church sponsors food, clothing and toy drives for the Kent Food Bank. Collections of items to help our needy neighbors take place at various times of the year.
We actively support the Kent Ministerial Association Jail Ministry with a staff of trained and caring members.
We have hosted homeless men for a month at a time through H.O.M.E. (Home-less Outreach Mobilization Effort).
We share our building with the Ukrainian Pilgrim Church, Alcoholics Anonymous, Alanon, and Kent-Meridian Cooperative Preschool.
We participated in World Relief's Refugee Program. We assisted a family from Somali for three months helped secure furniture and household goods, taught cooking, tutored basic skills and provided transportation.
Many of our members tutor elementary students after school.
